A Billboard for Indiana:

OUR MINDS ARE GOD’S WE ARE CALLED TO USE THEM

I am roiling over the billboard in Indiana where the small child is looking into the face of the beautiful young woman and saying, “Thank you Mother for choosing Life.”

And thinking about the Sopranos episode where the Evangelists come to Tony’s hospital room with the sign that says, “The Womb belongs to God.”

That is, NOT to the woman who must raise the child in the land of no paid maternity leave, insurance run health care, expensive daycare, underfunded schools, and millions of disaffected people with guns. Not to the woman who might want to do something else with her God given life.

It doesn’t do to point out to the Man with the Sign that he and his God are not actually pro LIFE and against Killing. They are pro war, pro guns, pro military, pro police. They are ok with killing the enemy e.g.,immigrants, GLBT persons, the environment.

It doesn’t do to point out that the Earth is groaning with overpopulation, with suffering people, and calling us to make tough choices. Like ending Life in the womb.

The only thing to do is to point out the obvious. God is Science. God is fair elections. God wants Sustainable Energy, Clean Air, Water, Universal Health Care. God Loves women. And freedom.

But, I am  waxing absurd. The Billboards don’t believe in MIND. Only God’s mind as they are fed it from the pulpit. They believe in Scripture. They believe in Believing. And Obedience. 

I don’t. 

Not sure about God.
